The Times of London, Sunday Times, stands accused of tapping into former Labour Party Leader Gordon Brown's private medical records. According to the story published today by BBC, Rebekah Brooks, chief executive of the Times parent, News International, called Brown in 2006 when he was Chancellor of the Exchequer and informed him that she knew Brown's son was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Brooks was editor of the Sun at the time of the call. The Sun is a tabloid. She went on to become editor of the News of the World, Murdoch's 2.5 million circulation UK flagship. New Financial Disclosure Form Raises More Troubling Questions
For Immediate Release
Contact: Naomi Seligman, 310.617.4577
Washington, DC— In light of new financial disclosures provided Justice Clarence Thomas, ProtectOurElections.org today sent a letter to the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) Public Integrity Section and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) urging that they investigate information recently revealed in Thomas’ 2010 Financial Disclosure Form.
ProtectOurElections.org has previously sent several letters to the FBI and DOJ alleging improper conduct by Clarence Thomas and his wife, Virginia. Those allegations are:
First, Justice Thomas falsified 20 years of judicial financial disclosure forms by denying that his wife had income sources; second, he engaged in judicial corruption by receiving $100,000 in support from Citizens United during his nomination and then ruling in favor of Citizens United in 2010 without disclosing that fact or disqualifying himself; and third, he apparently conspired with his wife in a form of "judicial insider trading" by providing her with information about the result of the Court's decision in Citizens United prior to its issuance, which she then used to launch a new company to take financial advantage of that decision to benefit her and her husband.

Watchdog Groups Launch New Campaign To Hold Andrew Breitbart, James O’Keefe And Hannah Giles Accountable For Illegally Wiretapping ACORN Employees In Baltimore
Washington, DC— Watchdog groups have launched a new campaign to hold Andrew Breitbart, James O'Keefe and Hannah Giles accountable for the violations of criminal law they committed by illegally and surreptitiously recording employees of the Baltimore, Maryland ACORN office in the summer of 2009 and posting edited video versions online in order to harm ACORN. The campaign, www.IndictBreitbart.org, is a grassroots campaign to let law enforcement officials in Maryland know that ordinary citizens want accountability for those who break the law. Maryland’s Wiretapping and Electronic Surveillance Act prohibits both surreptitious recordings and disclosure of those recordings, with a prison sentence of five years and a $10,000 fine.
“The King Middle School was kind enough to allow the Maine Republican Party to use their facilities, and we are deeply concerned about the lack of respect shown to the faculty,” McNally said in a statement. “The Maine Republican Party does not condone the destruction of property nor does it encourage the lack of tolerance that these people demonstrated.”
"These people" McNally is talking about stole a "pro-labor poster" from the kids classroom - leaving behind their GOP propaganda - and are the same tea baggin' members of the GOP that wrote the official party platform for the Maine GOP: Make the jump»
According to the NY Times, the first of UBS' tax evading client list is being charged:
The client, Steven Michael Rubinstein, an accountant, was arrested in Boca Raton, Fla., and charged with one criminal count of filing a false and fraudulent tax return, according to court papers unsealed on Thursday.
The arrest is the first of a major American client of UBS, which has been under criminal investigation for helping scores of wealthy Americans evade taxes through secret offshore accounts that went unreported to the Internal Revenue Service. It signals that federal authorities are making good on a promise to pursue American clients suspected of tax evasion, and in some cases to make indictments.

Bush Cannot Be Allowed to Get Away With What He's Done to America
I'm in total agreement with Obama's sentiment that it's time for America to heal itself and move forward, but I certainly hope he's not so fixated on that sentiment that he allows the Bush/Cheney gang to get away with the damage that they've done to America.
Of course, there are those who are going to insist that we have so many challenges before us that we can't be distracted by engaging in vengeance, but this is not a matter of vengeance, it's a simple matter of governmental housekeeping.
Just as it is necessary to refurbish and restore our national monuments from time to time, it is even more important that our American ideals be maintained in pristine condition. Thus, by allowing the Bush/Cheney administration to get away with what they've done to those ideals, and the damage they've done to America's image around the world, allowing them to walk away with impunity would be the moral equivalent of allowing them to leave graffiti behind on the Statue of Liberty. From October 26th to November 1st of this year, the LA Times ran a seven part series by Paul Lieberman about The Gangster Squad -- an LA police unit that got its start after World War II.
It makes for some fascinating reading.
Here's a list of the stories (you'll find a more complete list at the link above, pertaining to all of what the Times calls The Complete LA Noir):

End Presidential Pardons and Clemency
An Amendment -
The president shall not have the right to
grant pardons or clemency.
The prospect of the criminal in chief, George W. Bush, issuing pardons to his co-conspirators is repugnant to all citizens who've paid any degree of attention over the last eight years. Make the jump»
Let Risk-Taking Financial Institutions Fail
By Ari J. Officer and Lawrence H. Officer
Follow the money. Average Joes and Janes are not the holders of the other side of complicated, over-the-counter derivatives contracts. Rather, hedge funds are the main holders. The bailout will involve a transfer of wealth — from the American people to financial institutions engaging in reckless speculation — that will be the greatest in history.
Rescuing financial institutions is not the best solution.
Information and facts are the only things that will protect you from any attempts by the government to take your money and hand it over to the support the lavish lifestyles of these corrupt, reckless and foolish bankers. Make the jump»
I know you just got whiplash saying "WTF???" when you read that title BUT...
Did they mention the hand outs to these criminal bankers would have you paying for it at the pump? Or for the food you eat? Your electric bill? Oh... They didn't mention that part to you, did they?
As the Fed prints more money from their magical money tree and bails out these banks there is a legitimate concern with people's investment portfolios... BUT there is a huge flip side to this Bush league manufactured crisis that comes in higher prices for real things you need everyday (not scraps of paper with zero value designed to make bankers rich on commissions) coupled with a devalued dollar. Given what we know about the closed door meetings on Capitol Hill, I want to know what the meeting insiders - from the corrupt Bush administration on down to the supposedly surprised Senators and Representatives and including all of the other government officials that have known or just found out about this - have done with their own investment portfolios in the last little while. Legal problem after legal problem getting piled higher and deeper for Countrywide in the last couple of weeks...
SEC Begins Formal Probe Of Countrywide
The Securities and Exchange Commission escalated its scrutiny of Countrywide Financial Corp. into a formal investigation, according to a regulatory filing by Bank of America Corp.
The document didn't specify what aspect of the lender the SEC's probe is focused on, although regulators launched an informal inquiry into Countrywide Chairman and CEO Angelo Mozilo's stock trades last fall.
Representatives for Charlotte, N.C.-based Bank of America and Countrywide declined to comment beyond the filing Friday.
Please note the privacy issue story at the end of this because Countrywide's legal troubles just keep getting piled higher and deeper: Make the jump»

UBS, LGT Helped Hide Assets, Evade Taxes, Senate Says
By David Voreacos and Carlyn Kolker
July 17 (Bloomberg) -- UBS AG and Liechtenstein bank LGT Group aided rich U.S. clients who wanted to disguise ownership of accounts and evade taxes on hidden assets, a Senate subcommittee said.
UBS, the world's largest wealth manager, hid as much as $17.9 billion for 19,000 Americans who didn't declare assets to the Internal Revenue Service, the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations said in a report released in Washington late yesterday. LGT, owned by Liechtenstein's ruling family, fostered a ``culture of secrecy and deception'' while assigning code names to U.S. clients, the panel said.
